An authentic Mexican gem down the street from Enfield Town Hall.

Located a little south of Enfield’s town hall on Route 5, Sarapes Restaurante has been offering authentic Mexican food for nearly a decade.

The small restaurant at 917 Enfield St. is a sister of the Sarapes on Broad Street in Hartford. The Enfield branch was opened in 2002 and has had a steady stream of fans ever since, a simple internet search will confirm that.

Open seven days a week, the menu has a wide variety of choices. Several types of tacos such as beef tongue, grilled steak, chicken, spiced pork and even ground beef.

Patrons can find gorditas, tostadas, tamales, burritos, tortas, chile rellenos and enchilades.

There are seafood dishes such as Mojarra Frita and Camarones Ala Diabla.

From 9 a.m. to noon, there’s a breakfast menu that includes several huevos dishes including Huevos con Chorizo and Huevos con Jamon.

On weekends, you can find Menudo (beef tripe soup) and Pozole and Sopes.
