Bites Nearby: Pickle Jar Deli, East Windsor

Serving ovestuffed sandwiches, homemade pasta salads and soups.

With a few tables outside, spring is a great time to discover the Pickle Jar Deli if you haven’t already tried one of their overstuffed sandwiches and homemade pasta salad.

Owners Natalie Moschettie and Annkera Carlander opened the deli in East Windsor in January 2010. They pride themselves on their neighborhood atmosphere and soups and salads made from scratch.

Carlander said they are known for their chicken salad, made with all white meat, and their New York-style Reubens are popular.

Sandwiches are served on white, wheat, rye bread or a Kaiser roll, with one side, which can be pasta salad, potato salad or chips. They also have a house salad and a chef salad with a selection of dressings. Prices for the sandwiches, which are piled with fresh, tasty ingredients, range from $5.25 to $7.75 for specialty sandwiches.

Some of the specialty sandwiches include Our Famous O’Ryan, with homemade chicken salad, bacon, lettuce, cheddar and tomato; the Henhouse, with egg salad, bacon, horseradish mayonnaise, pickles, lettuce and tomato; and the Pig Pen, with slow-cooked BBQ pork topped with cheddar cheese and homemade coleslaw on a grilled roll.

The deli also offers catering for private functions, either in their deli on evenings and weekends or take-out catering also is available.

The Pickle Jar Deli is at 33A South Main St., in East Windsor, behind Jonathan Pasco’s. They are open from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, 860-292-6833.
