Volunteers spent the weekend cleaning the Canal Trail & Park and planting new bushes.

The Windsor Locks Canal Trail & Park has been turned into an beautiful place to see nature and hike.

The Suffield High School Interact Club and the Farmington Valley Community Service Group helped the Friends of the Canal remove the trash and plant dozens of new winterberry bushes, which will supply foood for the more than 243 species of migrating birds that come to rest briefly along the trail.

A special pair of note are the nesting eagles residing near the trail. The Windsor Locks entrance to the trail remains closed to insure that the eagles can raise their young. The trail south of the Stoney Brook aqueduct is also closed.
