Take Your Child to the Library Day to be Observed Next Month

It is a national program that began in Connecticut.

Feb. 2 has been designated "Take Your Child to the Library Day."

The Rockville Public Library Children’s Department will be observing the event that Saturday.

It is the second-annual version of the day, which was created in Connecticut and is now a nationwide effort focused on bringing children into their local libraries and encouraging families to read together.

While visiting the library that day, children may apply for a library card and check out a book, video, magazine, or audio book.

Families who visit the library that day will receive a tote bag.

A craft workshop and face painting will be offered at the Library Annex, located next door to the Library, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

For more information, contact the Library at 860-875-5892.

Chris, Could you use another picture for our library? That one is disgraceful and does not show a positive reflection of our community. Thanks!

When taking the pictures for the original directory posting, library officials asked to include one of that scene. "New York has its lions. Rockville has its globes," they said. Here are some more, and let's vote here for our favorites.

The original photo for this story featured the globes flanking the stairs. I'll leave this one featured and ask that everyone look at the gallery and vote for their favorite.

Thanks Chris! I think it was the graffiti that gets to me. I like the one you have featured now.

Tim Becker took that a while back during a night reception. It might be my favorite too.
