Seeing East Windsor History While Enjoying Frozen Treats

The East Windsor Historical held its annual event to entertain and inform town residents.

About 100 people enjoyed free frozen treats and music from a barbershop quartet in hot weather at the East Windsor Historical Society’s fifth annual ice cream social Saturday.

The event is an opportunity for the society to give back to the community and let visitors see what is offered at the Scantic Academy Museum, president Michael Hunt said.

In addition to the ice cream and other frozen treats paid for by the historical society, visitors toured the museum, whose collection includes artifacts from the early days of the East Windsor to the present.

There are even artifacts from Native Americans who lived in the area hundreds of years ago, Paul Scannell, society member, said. Those artifacts include arrowheads and ancient tools found by area farmers.

Hunt said he was happy with Sunday’s turnout.

“The way times are now people are staying home more and this is something close by for them to do,” Hunt said.
