Readers' Choice: What's Your Favorite Beach?

Where do you go to cool off in the summertime? A local pond? The river? How about a beach along the shoreline?

With temperatures slowly creeping up (not like the 90ºF it was in February!) the pool covers are coming off and the sunblock is being uncapped.

But if a pool deck is not where you yearn to be, where do you go to take a refreshing dip and then sit on the shore to relax? Do you make the trek to Rhode Island or Cape Cod to plop yourself down on an ocean beach? Or do you stick closer to home to enjoy a local swimming hole or state park?

Last week the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection gave the green light to and lounge on the beaches along  Long Island Sound.

Some popular state parks on the list include:

But don't forget about these popular local places:

Tell us where your favorite place to lounge by the water is during the summer. Vote in the poll below or if you don't see your spot of choice, please add it in the comment section and within 24 hours we'll include it in the poll.

The poll closes Friday at 9 a.m., and we'll announce the winner on Saturday.

Readers' Choice is all about you — your ideas, your feedback and your voice — so we hope you will chime in and post your reviews of local hot spots.

Representative Davis is a smart young man. He obviously gets it, which certainly isn't thatRead More difficult. Unfortunately, the large majority of Democrats don't get it, and they are ruining our state. Take note David Kiner, Chris Davis has a clue, he gets it! As Mr. Davis has suggested, we are a ticking time bomb and unless we correct this spending and borrowing problem NOW we are absolutely doomed. We are on the same path places like Detroit have gone down and, as I'm sure you are all aware, that city is a wasteland. Since the Democrats have displayed an inability to do what is right for our state, each and every one of them needs to be voted out of office and replaced by leaders with a sense of fiscal discipline. Leaders that will spend OUR money with care. The future of our state, for ourselves and our children, depends on it!
