Rain Following Snow Today, East Windsor Budget Public Hearing Wednesday

Five Things to know on Tuesday.

 

1. After snow overnight, today will feature rain and a high temperature of 43 degrees, according to The Weather Channel. Tonight will have a few showers early and a low temperature of 30 degrees.

2. The East Windsor boards of education and selectmen are holding the annual budget public hearing at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in . The boards are encouraging comments from the public on the board of education and general government 2012-13 budgets.

3. The East Windsor Lions Club is holding a roast pork dinner from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. January 21 at , 76 S. Main Street. The cost is $10 per person and benefits the East Windsor Lions charities and scholarships.

4. On January 26, 14 students from East Windsor High School, 76 S. Main Street, will participate in the Poetry Out Loud school contest. The winner of this competition will advance to the Connecticut Poetry Out Loud contest at Southern Connecticut State University on March 21, 2012.  

The Connecticut champion will advance to the Poetry Out Loud National Finals on May 13-15, 2012 in Washington, DC, where $50,000 in awards and school prizes will be distributed.

The competition will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium and is free and open to the public.

5. The Opera House Players are presenting Chicago, The Musical from February 10 through 26, 2012, at the , 107 Main Street, Broad Brook. Performances are at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.operahouseplayers.org or by calling the box office at 860-292-6068. Suggested for mature audiences. The show will be directed by Becky Beth Benedict, with musical direction by Angela McCulloch Klimaytis and choreography by Alison Bogatay.

Murderesses Velma Kelly (a chanteuse and tease who killed her husband and sister after finding them in bed together) and Roxie Hart (who killed her boyfriend when she discovered he wasn't going to make her a star) find themselves on death row together and fight for the fame that will keep them from the gallows in 1920s Chicago.
