Patch Picks: Nonprofits in Need

Help organizations that are helping your neighbors.

This week Patch Picks highlights food banks and soup kitchens that could use your support in this winter season. Donations of non-perishable foods, money and volunteer time are gladly accepted.

The Five Corner Cupboard, in the First Congregational Church of East Windsor, serves about 100-140 families each month as a food pantry. They also are one of the providers in town for holiday food baskets. The Five Corner Cupboard is still in need of juice, mixed fruit and applesauce. Personal care items also can be donated. Monetary donations are accepted year round and can be sent to Five Corner Cupboard, 124 Scantic Road, East Windsor CT 06088

The Windsor Locks FoodShelf serves about 35-45 families a week. The Windsor Locks FoodShelf is especially in need of: beef stew, canned turkey, canned chicken, applesauce, apricots, peaches, pears, mixed fruit, tuna helper, macaroni and cheese, instant potatoes, pasta side dishes, Rice-A-Roni, Jello, pudding, powdered milk and crackers. Please check expiration dates on products if you are donating from your own pantry. Enfield Loaves & Fishes Soup Kitchen serves hot meals weekdays at no cost. Open Monday through Friday, from 4-5 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturdays. Donations of food and money are accepted.

Pauline’s Stockpot Kitchen serves a hot meal at no cost, all are welcome. Dinner is served every Friday night and the third Wednesday of the month. Breakfast is served the second Saturday of the month. Wesley United Methodist Church, 53 North Main St., East Windsor

The South Windsor Town Clerk’s office is still accepting donations for the South Windsor Food & Fuel Bank. Anyone wishing to donate non-perishable food items or paper goods, detergents etc. may bring them to the Town Clerk’s office during the hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Thursday until 6 p.m. Town Hall, 1540 Sullivan Ave., South Windsor.
