Patch Picks: Five Great Nonprofits Making a Difference
Five nonprofit organizations that are doing especially good work in East Windsor, Windsor Locks and the surrounding area.

When the Five Corner Cupboard, a food pantry, was established in the 1970s, its primary purpose was to serve members of the First Congregational Church in East Windsor in need. But about 15 years ago, because of demand, it expanded. While it has remained under the auspices of the church's Mission Committee, East Windsor's human services staff helps screen all clients.

The mission of The Network Against Domestic Abuse of North Central Connecticut is to reduce the incidence of domestic violence and to assist adult victims and their children to be free from this violence. Located in Enfield, Hours are 8:30 a.m. to p.m. Monday - Friday.

3. Foodshare
Located at 450 Woodland Ave. in Bloomfield, Foodshare distributes more than 16 tons of food a day to the greater Hartford area. Foodshare has operated since 1982. Foodshare is a very efficient group as 94 percent of their resources go directly to fighting hunger.
located at 75 Hazard Ave. in Enfield, the Arc advocates for people with developmental, cognitive and intellectual disabilities by promoting their full inclusion in local communities and protecting their rights.
5. SBM Charitable Foundation, Inc.
Located at 935 Main St. in Manchester, SBM provides grants for the arts, education, health, housing and human services in Hartford, Tolland and Windham counties.
