Octoberfest Awaits Windsor Locks Residents on Sunday

The annual family-oriented festival has been held for the last few years at Noden-Reed Park.

Windsor Locks residents will be enjoying the annual Octoberfest from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday in Noden-Reed Park.

The family-oriented festival was an outgrowth of the town’s 150th Anniversary celebration in 2004, which was very popular, Sue Barsanti, a member of the Windsor Locks Community Advisory Council, said. It remains very popular.

“We’ve made it a huge event,” Barsanti said.

Octoberfest is well attended and should especially be so with election season, Barsanti said. But even without election season, if the weather is good the festival is well-attended, she added.

The festival will include face painting, hay rides, airborne jugglers, a puppet show, a corn maze, kids corner, pick a pumpkin, a car show, tractor pull and music from The Turkey Foot Band. There will also be refreshments, food and crafts will be available for purchase.

This year also features a 5K Walk for Hunger. The cost is $5 per person and all proceeds will go to the Windsor Locks Food Shelf. Registration is from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m., with the walk starting at 8 a.m.

Barsanti said the council decided on the walk because runs and a bike ride in the past weren’t as successful as they had helped.

During the festival, West Street at Grove Street to Reed Avenue will be closed to thru traffic, Police Capt. Chester DeGray said.

In addition to the advisory counci, volunteers from New Life Assembly Church have played a big role in organizing this year's event, Barsanti said.
