NWS to Investigate Possible Tornadoes in the Area

Tornadoes were confirmed in the state earlier this month during a bout of storms in Enfield, Greenwich, Stamford and Windsor Locks.

Following Wednesday's possible tornado sightings, a National Weather Service (NWS) team will be dispatched Thursday to investigate the damages caused by yesterday afternoon’s powerful storms.

WVIT and other news outlets reported Wednesday that a possible tornado struck Storrs in the area of Routes 31 and 32. A photo posted to Instagram Wednesday afternoon by user Nick Stanczyc, appeared to show a funnel cloud.

If the NWS determines that it was in fact a tornado, it will be the fourth in the state this month. Tornadoes were confirmed during a bout of storms in Enfield, Greenwich, Stamford and Windsor Locks on July 1.

Thursday's forecast calls for more showers and thunderstorms, which could produce heavy rain, as well as flash flooding in poor-drainage areas, according to the NWS.
