Fundraising Effort For Windsor Locks' Historic Train Station

A vendor fair is being held in Windsor Locks Town Hall on September 8.

 

In an effort to help raise funds for the renovation of the Windsor Locks, a vendor fair is being held on September 8.

The fair will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the gymnasium of . It will feature about 30 vendors. The suggested entrance donation is $3.

Sue Caldon, one of the organizers, said the fair is a group effort that grew out of the historic train station planning meetings that are held twice a month.

Caldon said supporters of the historic train station have been talking about various methods of raising funds. So far, those have been small things such as collecting cans and bottles.

The reaction to the vendor fair has been good and surprising, Caldon said. They were quickly able to find vendors to participate in the fair.

Those vendors include: Tastefully Simple, Pampered Chef, Mary Kay, Creative Memories, PartyLite, Longaberger, Disney Travel, Avon, Lia Sophia, The Traveling Vineyard, Tupperware, Willow House, Barefoot Books, and Celebrating Home.

There are also small businesses: Inspired Intuition Therapeutic Massage and Wellness, Farrell Turnings (wood turning), LCN Kitchen and Bath LLC, and Bling it On! Jewelry.

Tables have also been rented to various crafters and non-profit organizations.

Patrick McMahon, the town’s economic development consultant, told the board of selectmen at its last meeting that appear to be in favor of selling the historic train station to the town.

Town officials have said the renovation of the train station could cost about $500,000 and they are looking for donations from residents and businesses, as well as other revenue sources to fund the project.
