December Break Activivites at the New ENgland Air Museum

Monday, December 26 – the popular LEGO contest will return.  A room full of LEGOs will be set up in the conference center and the theme is “You & Your Fantastic Flying Machine”.  The program is for ages 3-12 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.  Prizes will be awarded for each age category: 3-5, 6-8, 9-12. 

Tuesday, December 27 - the Museum will host an open cockpit program with about 6 aircraft to be open including a helicopter, an airliner, a jet fighter and a WWII aircraft.  All cockpits will close at 4:00 p.m.

Wednesday, December 28  - The Great Paper Airplane Challenge - Test your flying and folding skills to design a paper airplane that will fly the longest or the farthest during our first ever Great Paper Airplane Challenge. Prizes will be awarded for the longest flight and for the greatest time in the air.

Thursday, December 29 – There will be an Aero Modeling Workshop running from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on a first-come first-served basis.  This activity takes about an hour and a half to complete. Children ages 8-14 can build and fly their own models.  All children must be accompanied by an adult.  There is a $4.00 cost for the kit.

Friday, December 30 - The Egg-Fantastic Egg Drop Challenge - Gravity is indeed a harsh mistress - especially if you are an egg. Join us to create a device that can keep a naked egg intact when dropped. Staff will provide the materials and the "egg-spert" advice to help create an original protective device for the egg, which will be dropped off the balcony of the B-29 Hangar to see if it can survive the fall.

During this week you will also have the opportunity to try our new Flight Sim Zone. Immerse yourself in the adventure of aviation in a high-tech simulation experience where you get to be the pilot and fly. The Flight Sim Zone is presented by the Hiller Aviation Museum & NASA.

Each day docents will be on hand to provide information and to interact with the visitors.
