Daily 5: David Bowie, An Inspirational Author and a Burger Bash

Here's a look at five things of interest in the Windsor Locks and East Windsor area today, Tues., April 9.

This article was written and reported by Julian McKinley and Ted Glanzer.

Good morning, East Windsor and Windsor Locks! Today is Tuesday, April 9, 2013; there are 266 days left in the year.

Kids, have a seat. I have a confession to make.

There was a time (albeit in the mid-1980s) when I thought this was the greatest video in the history of history.

As one commenter on YouTube put it, that happened. We let it happen.

And I have to live with that shame every day of my life. (Tears)

1. It's going to be another gorgeous day (mostly). A high of 69ºF is forecast; however, rain is also expected to fall tonight, according to Weather.com.

2. Fay Taylor, author of her inspirational memoir, "Steel," will be at the Windsor Locks Public Library tonight at 6:30 p.m. She'll speak about her book and her fight to recover from severe spinal cord injuries.

3. Wendy's on Ella Grasso Turnpike will be the spot for supporting local animals and their owners tomorrow when the eatery hosts a "Burger Bash," donating a percentage of all sales to Friends of Windsor Animal Care and Control. The group helps local families feed their animals in tough economic times.

4. If you haven't checked out our new "Boards," you're missing out. A neighbor has solicited your support in her efforts to raise money and help find a cure for breast cancer. Another neighbor is encouraging neighbors to keep a look out for potential break-ins.
