Fred Astaire South Windsor Wins First Place Top Studio at Dance Extravaganza 2014.

SOUTH WINDSOR — The South Windsor Fred Astaire Dance Studio, 1735 Ellington Road, won First Place Top Studio at the Third Annual New England Dance Extravaganza held Friday, June 20th through Sunday, June 22nd, 2014 at the Mystic Marriott, 625 North Rd., Groton.
Executive Director Christian Lange explained, “The award is given to the team that wins the overall score. The Team Match is a “Proficiency Competition” meaning that you are scored based on your own performance as compared to the standard for that dance. You are not compared to the other dancers on the floor. You will receive a numeric score for each dance. Your scores will be added to the scores from the other competitors in your studio and an average will be calculated. The studio with the highest average will be declared the winner of the Team Match Extravaganza! The South Windsor Fred Astaire Dance Studio competed against 9 other studios, earning points as a group rather than individual competitors.
We felt that, this year Dance Extravaganza was very special because the theme choice, “Dancing through the Decades” , every studio dressed up according to their decade and we chose  the “Future” , as a new owners of the Fred Astaire South Windsor we see a brilliant and promising future ahead of us. Lots of sparks, gold, and silver effects came in order, and we built a robot to decorate our tables. A great team work.
“Dance is a sport that can be an alternative for golf or tennis.” said Fred Astaire South Windsor Director Paulo Jorge. Explained “One of our students told me that she’s having fun learning dance routines that she can perform despite medical issues. Dancing is for anyone.”
Both directors expressed their gratitude to students for participating. “We had so much fun preparing for this event.
