Wall That Heals Arrives in East Windsor

Escorted by police and veterans on motorcycles The Wall That Heals arrived in East Windsor Wednesday.

Traveling from Danbury, the truck carrying the half scale replica of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington D.C. stopped at La Rennaisance and then was escorted by the motorcycles to East Windsor Park where it will be on from Thursday through Sunday.

Veterans and local volunteers spent Wednesday afternoon erecting the wall and setting up other areas of the display.

Bob West, a volunteer and Vietnam veteran, said he’s seen the Vietnam Memorial in Washington D.C., which is a powerful experience. He said it’s great that The Wall That Heals is available to those people who can’t get to Washington.

Nonetheless, West said he has seen the smaller version many times and knew 32 of the names on the wall.

“For me it’s like, any time, going to the cemetery and visiting my parents,” West said.

The Wall’s visit will officially begin with a ribbon cutting at 8 a.m. Thursday, and more ceremonies starting at 5 p.m.
